WHO WE ARE:
London Welsh Rugby Football Club is a historic and ambitious club based in Richmond, London. Founded in 1885, the club has a proud playing history that includes competing in both the Premiership and the Championship. Today, London Welsh continues to build on its rich history, competing in National 2 East. Since going into liquidation in 2016, the club has successfully climbed 5 leagues in 7 seasons and is ambitious with its future plans for 26/27 and beyond.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
This is a rare opportunity for a highly driven professional to join an extremely ambitious and successful club. This will be a leading and hands-on role, operating as part of our multi-disciplinary team in driving the performance and outcomes of our performance players with a focus on the 1XV. The successful applicant will have proven experience in a Strength and Conditioning role and be ready to take on a senior (Lead) role in our leading team.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· Lead the performance team’s processes and oversee the return‑to‑performance programme in close collaboration with the medical department;
· Take responsibility for the team’s athletic development programme, ensuring each player’s physical potential is maximised;
· Lead on advancing the squad’s strength and power qualities including a programming system that works for the group;
· Work collaboratively with coaches and medical staff to ensure both team and individual needs are fully supported to optimise the teams potential;
· Oversee on‑pitch warm‑up delivery/in-session timing, as well as recovery, mobility and nutrition;
· Lead the delivery of strength and power sessions in the gym, including all relevant aspects of performance testing;
· Demonstrate leadership with energy, enthusiasm, and a positive influence on both staff and players;
· Provide leadership, guidance, and development support for the S&C intern;
· Enhance the squad’s physical capabilities and maximise player availability.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL:
· Proven experience working within a performance environment;
· Strong expertise in designing and implementing strength, speed, change‑of‑direction, and energy‑system–focused training programmes;
· Effective organisational abilities, with the capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team;
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong, productive relationships with both players and staff.
DESIRABLE:
· High level of knowledge around the physical, psychological, technical (position specific), and tactical (style of play) demands associated with Rugby;
· UKSCA Accreditation.

This will be a support role, operating as part of our multi-disciplinary team in driving the performance and outcomes of our performance players with a focus on the 1XV. The successful applicant will have experience in a Strength and Conditioning and be ready to take on a support role in our leading team.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· Support the performance team, assisting with return‑to‑performance tasks under guidance from senior staff;
· Contribute to the athletic development programme, helping monitor players’ physical progress and learning how to tailor programmes to individual needs;
· Assist in the development of the squad’s strength and power qualities, helping organise and deliver elements of gym‑based training sessions;
· Work closely with coaches and medical staff, observing multidisciplinary communication and providing support where appropriate to enhance player performance;
· Help deliver on‑pitch warm‑ups, supporting timing, organisation, and smooth session transitions;
· Support recovery, mobility, and basic nutrition processes, ensuring players follow established protocols;
· Aid in the delivery of gym‑based strength and power sessions, assisting with equipment setup, data collection, and performance testing;
· Show enthusiasm, professionalism, and a positive attitude, contributing positively to staff and player environments;
· Be open to mentorship and continuous development, actively seeking learning opportunities and applying feedback;
· Support programmes that enhance player availability, helping ensure best‑practice physical preparation at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL:
· Demonstrates a strong interest in working within a performance or athletic development environment, with any previous practical experience (e.g., university placements, voluntary work, or team involvement) seen as beneficial;
· Shows developing knowledge of strength, speed, change of direction, and energy‑system training, with the ambition to learn how to design and deliver effective programmes under supervision;
· Displays good organisational skills, with the ability to manage tasks responsibly, work diligently on independent duties, and collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary performance team;
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong, productive relationships with both players and staff.
