London Welsh Women Kick Off a New Season with an International Coach, Fresh Faces, and World Cup Fever.
As the summer heat begins to fade and the pitch softens underfoot, London Welsh Women are lacing up for another season in NC2, facing off against familiar rivals across South West London. This year, there’s a fresh energy pulsing through the squad, and a touch of World Cup magic.
At the heart of this new chapter is Valentina Bianchetto, a Level 3 coach with deep experience in girls’ development and club-level rugby, Her arrival marks a bold step forward for the team.
The team has welcomed a handful of new faces to pre-season, following a few retirements after last year, and continues to invite players to wear the red jersey and share in our love of the game.
Off the pitch, excitement is building for the Women’s Rugby World Cup, some will be gathering to watch matches in the clubhouse, others travelling to grounds across the UK. But the real crescendo comes on 27th September, when Twickenham hosts the final. Over thirty London Welsh Women players, past and present, are expected to attend a sold out Twickenham.
Our own celebration of Women’s rugby happens on 25th October, when we mark the 40th anniversary of the women’s team as part of the men’s 140th anniversary celebrations. It promises to be a day of reconnection, rugby and revelry. On the pitch, it all begins with our opening match at home versus Sutton and Epsom on 21st September. Boots on, socks up, here we go for another unforgettable season.
