We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jeffrey Shaw, a long standing member and coach of our juniors and minis.
We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Jeffrey Shaw, who died peacefully at home in Kew on 28 January .
Jeff was a member and supporter of London Welsh for more than 45 years. He made countless friends at the club and held a lifelong affection for the London Welsh community.
A passionate rugby man, Jeff coached and managed several of his sons’ mini and junior teams at London Welsh, taking great joy in tours to Wales, Scotland, Germany and the former Yugoslavia. His love of the game travelled with him: during his time in Hong Kong he coached at Kai Tak RFC, with his teams taking part in Hong Kong Sevens curtain-raisers and touring Thailand.

From playing at centre for Aylesbury RFC in the 1960s to proudly watching his grandsons Tom and Will represent Wallingford and London Welsh RFC today, rugby was a constant thread in Jeff’s life — one he shared wholeheartedly with his family.
Jeff enjoyed decades of “going over the road” to support the London Welsh side of the day. This season, even while undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, it brought great joy to Jeff and his family to attend home games at Old Deer Park.
Jeff’s funeral will take place at 11 am on 20th February at St Anne’s Church, Kew Green, followed by a wake at London Welsh.
In April, Jeff ’s sons Peter and Neil will be cycling from Land’s End to London in his memory, raising funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK. If you would like to support their fundraising, donations can be made via the link below:
