We are excited to announce that the short documentary “Dragons in Exile – The London Welsh Story” has launched this evening.
We shared a preview some weeks ago and can now share the link to the full programme here
This is a fantastic piece of work, produced by James Roberts – a former London Welsh performance squad player, who has recently completed an MSc from Cardiff Metropolitan University in Sports Broadcasting. James began playing rugby at the age of 7 for Bracknell RFC, and after a few years and Berkshire County appearances he also found himself representing the Welsh Exiles, one of these occasions at Old Deer Park itself.
As part of the course James studied, it was his task to produce a sports documentary piece that would be the culmination of all he has learnt during his masters’ studies. James said: “I chose to do my piece on London Welsh Rugby Club, as it is such a special story in the world of rugby but one that is also deeply personal to me. I knew that the journey of the club over the last 6 or so years is one that must be shared widely across the rugby community, it offers a beacon of hope for clubs that have gone on to experience their own difficult times. I loved paying homage to the history of this great club also, and I hope many watch this and hear London Welsh’s name for the first time and learn from this piece.”
James is now establishing himself in the broadcasting and streaming world after finishing his studies, he is hoping to enjoy a long career in the industry. He has already appeared on commentary for RFU Championship Rugby, BUCS Super Rugby and RFU finals days, including commentary at Twickenham itself. James has also presented on sports coverage of GB3 & GB4 motor racing, BUCS Super Rugby, Cardiff Met Sport TV programming, RFU Social Media specials and The Fly. As if James wasn’t busy enough, he has also had the honour to stadium announce for NFL UK’s NFL Academy, Hampshire County Cricket Club, THE HUNDRED, Arsenal WFC and at the Invictus Games 2023 in Düsseldorf!
The Board at London Welsh are delighted with the documentary, and we hope you have a long successful career in the industry and continue to visit and work with us at London Welsh.
