The 1st XV travel to Datchworth’s picturesque ground on Saturday. London Welsh supporters will recall the warm welcome received at the opening game of last season and the noise and atmosphere added by their travelling support when the return fixture at ODP brought the season to a close. Datchworth were promoted from London 3 North West last season as runners up with 18 wins from the 22 games.
Two wins and two defeats so far this season puts Datchworth sixth in the current league table. Wins over Luton and Letchworth (33-24 and 20-26 respectively) were more than cancelled out by the defeats against Hemel Hempstead (36-18) and Fullerians (45-17).
Last season Welsh won both of the matches between the clubs. David Gabe, Oscar Neme and Chris Carns (twice) all scored tries in the 27-7 victory at Datchworth Sports Ground whilst the ODP fixture was a much closer affair with tries by Max Morgan and David Gabe being just enough in a 10-7 final score.
London Welsh will start the game top of the London 2 North West with maximum league points, a seven try romp against Fullerians eeking out a three point lead over Chiswick who were held to a 22-all draw at home to Hammersmith & Fulham. Grasshoppers are a single point further behind but are four points ahead of fourth-placed Hackney.
The London Welsh Supporters Club are running a coach to Datchworth leaving ODP at 11.30am. The fare is £15 for LWSC members and £20 for non-members.Call the ‘Hotline’ on 07900 411952 to book your place.
