Kilburn Cosmos visited Old Deer Park for our first home game of the season. The bonus point was secured with a penalty try shortly after half time and London Welsh went on to a 47-5 win thanks to tries from Sam Canning-Birtles, David Gabe, Dan Ginger, Rhodes Dawes and Liam Hewison. Club Captain Lloyd Davies added five conversions. Kilburn had won their first league game with a 20-10 victory over Verulamians but lost the next four, finally getting another win by beating Harrow 26-24. Another three defeats and a draw followed until last Saturday’s 29-10 win at Old Merchant Taylors’. With the exception of our match and the 41-20 defeat at Stevenage their games have been close fought and, although fourth from bottom in the league, Kilburn have a negative points difference of only 71.
Kilburn Cosmos were formed in 1996 and now, from their corner of Gladstone Park, run two men’s teams, a womens team and a strong youth section. They also offer the warmest of welcomes and are rightly proud of being Brent’s only rugby club. Aware of our visiting supporters’ need for food and eagerness to boost bar takings, there will be a BBQ with up and running by 12.30pm and the bar selling ‘the cheapest beer in London’ at just £2.50 a pint. There is limited parking on-site but on-street parking is available in the local roads.
London Welsh reach the halfway point of the season holding on to top spot and with a six point lead over Streetonians. The chasing pack are not far behind with just four points covering second to fourth places. Nine wins, eight of them with bonus points, the famous 0-0 draw at Streetonians and the solitary loss (with a bonus point though) have brought the 47 league points. Equally impressive is the average 30 points scored each game with an average of just 8 points conceded to give the best points difference in the league by a considerable margin.
Kick off at Gladstone Park is at 2pm. Avoid the Christmas shopping and come along to give the team your support!
Occies are at home to Hampstead 4s and Druids travel to Ealing. Both games also have a 2pm start.
