The London Welsh 1st XV return to cup action this Saturday after a two season gap. The first round of the RFU Intermediate Cup brings Farnham to ODP and only a further five rounds of the competition separates the winner of this match from a Twickenham final!
Farnham’s start to the season has been similar to our own with four wins from their first four games in London 2 South West. In the opening week of the season they visited Tottonians and whilst they came away with a 20-13 win just four league points were gained. The next three games each brought all five points, successes at home against Old Emanuel (35-15) and Old Canleighans (51-5) sandwiching a win on the road against Twickenham (26-45).
KGS Old Boys were runaway leaders of London 2 South West last season with 22 bonus point wins from 22 games. Farnham finished second, and took part in the promotion play-offs, thanks to a 26-17 win over third-placed Old Tonbridgians on the last day of the regular season. The play-off game didn’t go their way with a 44-17 defeat against Horsham leaving them in London 2 for another year.
Formed in 1975, Farnham have never risen above London 2 level but in May 2017 won the RFU Senior Vase at Twickenham with a resounding 37-15 defeat of Droitwich. Their strong mini and youth section provided the starting point for ex-England internationals Jonny Wilkinson and Peter Richards.
London Welsh top London 2 North West with bonus point wins from all four of their league matches to date. The seven tries scored against Fullerians last Saturday included a brace for Dan Hiscocks taking his total to six in three games. Elliot Hopkin and Ahmed Yahye are hot on his heels though with four tries apiece.
Kick off is at the earlier time of 2.30pm. The kitchen will be open to sell hot food and drinks with the bar open late into the evening. Come along and give the players your support. ADMISSION IS FREE!
