A very powerful Reading RFC team descended on Barn Elms and successfully managed the chaos of the extensive building works on the site to take the field promptly at 11:30
The game offered a London Welsh team intent on moving the ball through multiple phases of play and a Reading team with several very powerful players able to break multiple tackles and create space. Ben Longhurst scored the first try for Welsh.
Half Team saw the Welsh with a two try lead but in the second period the Reading team came back strongly with the lead changing hands on several occasions. It was not until the last 10 mins did outside half Huw Thompson score two very good tries from deep within his own half. His second attempt during the game to use a chip and chase, saw the ball bounce nicely and allow Huw to collect it and go over under the post. Minutes late he was over again for his third try of the game, in the corner after multiple phases of play which saw the Welsh work they way to the Reading line.
James Simpkin also bagged a brace, one in the first period and a second that required powerful leg drive and a reach for the line.
Both sides completed very evenly throughout the game, a match every one watching throughly enjoyed.
Well done to both teams.
