ST David’s Day festival

It was fantastic to see Old Deer Park buzzing on Sunday 25th February for one of the biggest days in the Minis calendar – our St David’s Day festival.

We welcomed a record 110 teams from fifteen clubs from England and Wales, with teams representing Abergavenny, Llantrisant, Cowbridge, Monmouth, Folkestone, and two clubs from Cardiff – alongside a number of more familiar teams with a shorter distance to travel!  We had 1,150 children playing from U7 up to U12 – just don’t ask our Minis Chairman how many medals he had to assemble in the run up to the event!  These festivals are only possible with a huge effort from our community of volunteers. Thank you to all of our coaches, pitch marshalls, car park volunteers and parents on the cake and pancake stalls.

It was amazing to see so many boys and girls from all of our age groups representing London Welsh brilliantly and demonstrating the skills and teamwork that they have developed over the course of the season.  But most importantly, it is wonderful to see how much they enjoy playing rugby together!  We received a number of compliments from visiting clubs on a well-run festival.  A great effort from our Minis community – diolch yn fawr!

PS Congratulations to the winner of our London Welsh Minis Welsh Cake Competition – Carys Prentice from the U9s!
