Recap

On Sunday London Welsh Ladies headed down to our locals rivals Wasps. History has shown this game to be a tough fought game, it was no different on this wet and rainy afternoon.

Welsh start by kicking it to the opposition, who keep taking it up to Welsh, but the red brick wall could not be broken and little ground was made by Wasps, this caused a knock on which allowed Welsh to run it back at them. Welsh had really found their pace as our forwards leg drive through the defence.
A knock on gives Wasps the ball back, and after Welsh have held them off for so long, Wasps run a try over the line.

Welsh kick it back to Wasps to restart the game, again holding a solid defence. However Wasps keep pushing up and a cheeky chip and chase leaves Welsh 14- 0 down.

This does not deter London Welsh, it has been a tight game so far and we keep pushing. Welsh are working the ball, phase after phase pushing it up. Forwards and backs working together as the back run strong lines and the forwards come in the protect and crash it through. Space is spotted on the outside and it is called out through Nat at 10 to Anna at 12, to Anita at 13, Issy powers through before getting it to our borrowed player Fran who gets it over the try line. A huge team try for London Welsh. 14-5

London Welsh set up to receive, a clean catch allows them to run it up. Again Welsh are getting the ball out to the back to run great lines and the forward recycle and keep crashing it up. A quickly taken penalty and Wasps on the back foot gives Welsh the opportunity to kick the ball off for a line out. Welsh maul hard but Wasps have come back strong and aren’t letting Welsh gain any ground. More chaos rugby and the forwards being held up give the backs the opportunity to spin it through the hands and Emma puts the ball over the try line 14-10

Welsh set up to receive again. It’s kicked far down the right hand side of the field, Potts picks it up and again, runs hard back at Wasps. A series of knock ons by both sides leads to some disruptive play and wasps get a series of penalties which allows their 8 to get it over the try line 19-10

London Welsh women Kick to wasps with 13 minutes left of the game to go. The game is tight and they know they can really push to close the gap. Big calls and blitzing up puts the pressure on Wasps and causes a knock on. This gives London Welsh another opportunity to gain some ground. However a handling error on the wing leaves Wasps with another scrum. Their 8 picks and gos from the back making lots of ground, passing it through the backs to allow them into Welsh’s 10, but a huge chase from our borrowed player Fran catches them short. Welsh retreat ready for a solid defence, the ball is stolen and Kat Lee kicks up an exit ball. The team chase and some loose ball allows Kat Lee to retrieve the ball and run it all the way over their try line. 19- 15

There’s not long left of the game, it’s very even with Welsh raring to go one more time, however another series of knock ons runs down the clock and sees in the end of the match.

A great score line for London Welsh against Wasps who are 3rd in the league. London Welsh women have 4 games to go, all remaining home games should be tight and will be great entertainment.
