It was a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon as the London Welsh Women’s team arrived at Old Deer Park.

London Welsh starts the game kicking off to Wasps. Welsh are putting the pressure on and rushing up as a line.

Welsh are keeping Wasps in their 22 and the pressure gets too much for them. It’s a Welsh scrum. Again, Wasps can’t handle the Welsh strength and immediately collapse the scrum. An early push from Wasps in an attempt to hold their own in the scrum gives Welsh the penalty. Nat Smith takes it fast, running it down the blindside. Welsh are in touching distance of the line, but a loose ball doing a pick and go gives them the turnover and they run it up the pitch. Some great defence holds Wasps off, but they find space on the blindside and manage to score. 7-0

Wasps quickly get two more tries after a cheeky chip and chase and another break away try. 14-0, 19-0

Another Welsh kick off gives Welsh another chance to put Wasps under pressure. A scrum in Wasp’s half lets Welsh dominate and drive, a penalty then gives Welsh the opportunity to take a line out and again dominate and drive in the maul. The ball goes out to the backs and Eleanor Evans bounces Wasps players off her left, right and centre to score Welsh’s first try. 19-5

Time for the Women in red to receive. I great catch from Olly Griggs who runs it up the pitch Welsh have a great start. Welsh setting up the phases nicely and great communication allows Welsh to drive up the pitch, however a turnover and some good lines allow wasps another try before half time. 26-5

London Welsh receives to start the second half another clean catch and Welsh run it straight back up to Wasps. Again, more penalties give Welsh the opportunity to gain ground and drive Wasps back. On London Welsh’s third line out and maul Nat Smith puts it over the line. 26-10

Again, Welsh receive and get into Wasps 22, however a few unconverted opportunities and another unsuccessful pick and go allows Wasps to rip it and run it up to score a try. 31-10

A kick off and a weak defence gives wasps another opportunity to score underneath the posts. 36-10

Welsh reset and pull together to hold wasps off the try line. Kat Underhill making a smashing tackle really knocks wasps back, but the ball gets out to the wingers and an overlap gives Wasps another try. 43-10

With 9 minutes left Welsh receive and hold possession for all 9 minutes taking it up the pitch. The forwards working together to drive through tackles, make great runs, then the backs would get it down through the hands making great ground. Some pick and go balls put Wasps under pressure and it’s a penalty. Time is up but Welsh can feel a try coming, before the Wasps 9 kicks it out the pitch. The cynical play only riles Welsh up. Welsh have a massive scrum driving almost all the way over the line, before another cynical play as the wasps 9 kicks the ball out the scrum. The ref has had enough, the whistle blows for a penalty try. 43-17
