Remembering Gareth Lloyd-Jones

It is with great sadness that London Welsh Rugby Club have to belatedly inform you of the passing of one of London Welsh’s former first team alumni. Gareth Lloyd-Jones who passed passed away on 24 May 2022 at the age of 79.

James, Gareths Son wrote

My Father played in the London Welsh first team for two seasons (1965-66 and 1966-67) and formed a formidable centre partnership with the late John Dawes. He was stationed in Plymouth with the Navy for the 1967-68 season which was the reason he was forced to leave London Welsh after two seasons but went on to play for the Navy, the Combined Services (against such teams as South Africa in 1969) and Cornwall.

He often spoke with great joy of his playing days and in particular, those spent at Old Deer Park. When he and my mother moved from South Wales to London in 2012, we often visited Old Deer Park to watch London Welsh, and he always wore his first team tie with great pride.

He leaves behind a wife, 2 sons and 4 grandchildren, he was much loved and will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts are with the family as we remember Gareth.
