We have just learnt the sad news that a great past servant and Honorary Vice President of our Club Rico Bassi passed away last week.
Rico joined London Welsh in 1970 at probably the most successful period in the Clubs history.
Rico had previously played for both Hereford and Maidstone before cementing a spot in the 2nd row for the Druids in which time he also represented Middlesex County Side.
He had a reputation as an uncompromising player who was well respected by his fellow players during his playing career at London Welsh.
On retirement from Playing Rico continued to support the Club, becoming heavily involved in both the coaching of the youth and mini sections as well as becoming a team secretary and then Chairman of the Youth Section, laying many of the foundations we benefit from today.
Outside of the rugby club he was also a keen QPR fan who was a season ticket holder who continued to attend home games until April this year.
Rico leaves behind his Wife Doreen who hails from Merthyr and a Son Andrew and Daughter Dawn.
The Club would like to wish Rico’s family our sincerest condolences and thank him for his many years of great service to London Welsh RFC.
I know from some of the contacts I have had since Rico’s passing what a great impression he made on the kids he coached in the past and that he will be very much always in their hearts
The Funeral will take place on
Thursday 13 June 2:30pm
Church of St Benedict’s
All are welcome to attend.
