Sunday 8th September sees the start of London Welsh Women’s 2019/20 campaign. The new season brings a new league (after a cross-region reshuffle) and with it, new opponents, including Sunday’s rivals Battersea Ironsides.
A young and ambitious team, Ironsides proved tough competition when Welsh came across them in the cup last season. An aggressive attack and physicality in the ruck also helped secure them third place in their league, so Welsh are expecting a good physical contest, but know what they need to do to remain in control throughout the clash.
LWWRFC has continued to see good numbers at pre-season training and are excited to put their work on attacking positions, line speed and managing the breakdown into practice at the away fixture.
Looking ahead to the game, women's Head Coach Michael Griffiths said, ‘This should be a great opportunity to put all our hard work at pre season into practice and to a build a solid platform for the season. Ironsides will no doubt be tough competition but I’m confident Welsh will be dominant.’
London Welsh Women has gone from strength to strength over the last 2 seasons with bumper numbers and real quality strength in depth through the squad.
See attached the squad for the season opener! Good luck to the ladies for Sunday and the 19/20 season ahead!
