Edward Hill may be known to some of you.
He played under Coaches John Evans, Chris Watkins and Rob West from 1998 - 2002 for the U-13 - U-17 and also played up an age group to Under 18 in a few games from aged 15.
Ed went on two great tours to Holland and Ireland. Happy days!
Ed and his partner Georgina now run a not-for-profit organisation in Tanzania, Pamoja Leo - which is supported by a charity in the UK, Together Today (translated from the Swahili). The charity is fundamentally an educational one with sport added and the aim of Pamoja Leo is to ensure children in Tanzania get the welfare & education they need to for them to thrive and be the best they can be.
Ed also started rugby training and in the first year had over 100 children playing, split evenly between boys and girls.
This was all highlighted by Miriam González Durántez (the wife of Nick Clegg - now of Facebook fame and formerly deputy PM) at a London Welsh lunch last season when she presented the work of the charity she represents - Inspiring Girls (using sport as a vehicle through its team building qualities to help and enable girls and women to aim high).
She praised Ed's pioneering work. Your London Welsh Supporters Club wanted to recognise this great work - and we're proud to say we raised £1000 last season - and we've raised a further £400 this season.
As Pamoja Leo say: '....since the start of 2018 Ed's old rugby club London Welsh has been helping us establish a girls rugby team at Pamoja Leo as well as strengthening our school youth rugby program. Pamoja Leo has partnered with local coaches (players from Eds local team, Tanga Warriors Rugby Club) to coach rugby in local schools and deliver messages of children's rights. We are really excited to have London Welsh's support and look forward to more rugby for the boys and girls of Tanga!'
We are all pleased to support such great work and to help Ed in extending the
London Welsh reach.
