London Welsh will continue their preparation for the 2022/23 season with a trip to National League 1 side, Rams RFC.
Last weekend saw Welsh begin their pre season with a trip to south Wales to play Pontypridd, where they lost 73-7, though the Exiles did come away from the game feeling positive.
Rams, who are based in Reading, have recently completed a successful pre season tour of Dublin, which finished with a 19-17 defeat to Terenure College, though did claim a victory against Lansdowne.
After promotion to National League 1 in 2019, the club finished second the following season, and last season found themselves in a respectful sixth.
This Saturday will see a reunion between the two clubs as both prop Griff Whitson, and fly half, Osian McAvoy played for the club in 2019.
The squad will be missing a number of players still yet to feature in pre season including: Sion Cowdy (7s duty), Griff Whitson (unavailable), Mike Griffiths (lumber back injury), Tom Baldwin (knee), Tom Williams (back), Adam Nixon (recovering from surgery), Matt Pollen (unavailable). In addition, Daf Manley, Sam Perry, Jack Burnett, Jonathan Ilori, Ben Davies, Rhys Howells, Ewan Gully and Paolo Peschisolido are all rotated out from last week’s trip to Ponty.
The squad does however see the first action of the season for new prop Myles Keane, returning second row Ben Watts, winger Owen Browne, Full back Jocob Butler and Wing Elliot Hopkin. In addition 2 time player of the season and Aussie star Roham Pixley is named amongst the replacements!
After this weekend’s fixture, Welsh will have one more pre season game before the start of the new season, with a trip across west London to face Ealing Trailfinders Academy, before starting the season the following weekend with a trip to Maidenhead RFC.
