London Welsh U14s and U15s end of season awards
Thursday 4th May saw a joint U14s and U15s awards evening hosted by LW Youth Chair Joe Bachour in a packed Pagoda Room with over 100 players and parents celebrating the achievements of the past season. A delicious 2 course meal was followed by the awards for the U14s lead by their team manager Marc Cullinane and his team of coaches. The U14s successfully ran A and B squads throughout the year with the help of new recruits at the beginning of the season. The lead coaches heaped praise on their players especially with their successes in the Surrey Waterfall Cup. The A team finishing joint third in Surrey.
The squad ended the season with a successful tour to Bredon Star RFC in Tewkesbury, who couldn’t have been better hosts to our tourists.
U14s awards were as follows:
A Team Forward of the season – Ellery Harker
A Team Back of the season – Filippo Hurrell
A Team New Player of the season – Reilly Jones
B Team Forward of the season – Arthur Gouilliard
B Team Back of the season – Fergus Tavendale
B Team New Player of the season – Nico von Roon
The coaches also presented a lovely London Welsh road sign to two of their players who are moving away.
The U15s followed with a review of the season presented by head coach Barry Thomas with a supplementary short video of key moments of the season. The U15s had a successful season with some big wins and finishing 8th in the Surrey Waterfall Cup out of 30 teams. They also finished the season with a second place win in the second tier of the Quins Cup. Barry and Joe were joined by coach Huw paisley to give out some well deserved awards as follows:
Clubman of the season – Josh Fellows
Most Improved player – Rhys Paisley
Coaches player of the season – Charlie Allen
Players Player of the season – Lewis Evans
As this was Barry’s last season as coach, Huw followed up with a speech looking back through the years at Barry’s involvement with this wonderful group of players. An emotional speech was delivered briefly interrupted by tears from both Huw and Barry. Barry has been with the group since U6s and lead coach for the past 5 years. The whole room gave a rousing applause before a video going back ten years played out.
For light relief, after an emotional segment, captain Josh Fellows proceeded to hand out gifts from the parents to the coaches as well as some fun awards to parents such as tourist of the year and grumpy touchline parent. A short round up of the end of season tour to Benetton Rugby was recited with a huge thanks to key organiser Giovanna who worked tirelessly to ensure that the weekend was well planned. A lovely bouquet of flowers was presented in recognition of Giovanna’s wonderful work.
The night finished with cheers from all and looking forward to next season.
