A further BUCS Super Rugby Welsh University teams up with London Welsh
We are delighted to announce a new strategic partnership between London Welsh RFC and Swansea University.
The initiative has been forged with the support of the London Welsh RFC Careers HUB and as part of our startegic plan in supporting graduates through to a sustainable work/life balance in London using the club as a base and spring board.
The initiative will see Swansea graduates and alumni have full access to the careers HUB mentoring and careers service as we look to facilitate and assist graduates into their careers in London; this will include access to the London Welsh industry database as we ultimately look to support graduates into employment through our strategic partners.
The first mentoring seminar took place last month and the careers HUB already has a number of young men and women on the pathway programme.
We are also very excited to confirm that we have 3 Swansea graduates from the BUCS super rugby squad joining the mens performance squad for the coming 2021/22 season; they will join the squad for the start of pre season on 15 June.
The HUB is also busy through the extensive London Welsh family, assisting many of our young careers HUB mentees in finding accomodation in their move to London and a support network of contacts and friends.
The link with Swansea University is the second strategic partnership in a matter of months following confirmation of the London Welsh partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University (also a BUCS Super Rugby side).
Club Vice Chairman and Careers HUB lead Haydn Parry commented on the new initiative:
‘We are delighted to have forged this new relationship with Swansea University as we look to support young and aspiring rugby players onto the career ladder in the capital. The club, and the careers HUB, has extensive connections across industry sectors and with unique access to mentors, mentoring programmes and industry leaders. Our aim is to provide a support network as we look to help players transition into the world of work channeling their talents so as to succeed on the rugby pitch but also excel off the pitch in their working life. The HUB has already mentored over 60 players across the club since inception.’
The initiative was welcomed by Head of Mens Rugby Jonathan Shankland who added:
‘ It is fantatsic to see the club forge yet stronger strategic links with Swansea University and I am looking forward to helping to support the young talented individuals that come to the club via the initiative. The opportunities that London Welsh can offer both on and off the field are substantial and I can see in the playing squad today many of the players who have already benefited from the careers HUB programme and who are enjoying unprecedented success in their work and rugby life. I am particularly looking forward to welcoming the 3 players that will be joining us from Swansea this pre season and we look forward to releasing more on this talented trio in the coming weeks. I believe that the relationships with Swansea and Cardiff Metropolitan Universities, both leading BUCS Super Rugby sides, stands as testimony to the sustainable approach of the club since project reset but also provides a clear indication of our ambition and focus for the future.’
We will keep supporters and members posted as the new relationship develops and indeed as further links are created.

We look forward to seeing you all at Old Deer Park very soon and to introducing new members of the squad as pre season progresses.
