Historical day for LWWRFC

Sunday 17th December proved to be an historic day for London Welsh Women’s Team as they played their final match of 2023 against Thamesians.

For the first time in the club’s history, we saw a mother and daughter run out for the team. Pictured above Karina Lo Dico (who herself has over 100 caps for LWWRFC) and her daughter Giovanna, who was playing in her debut game. It was a fantastic thing to see, and saw Karina fulfil her promise of 19 years ago – to help with player recruitment by having a daughter!

This was not the only special occasion taking place at the match though! We also saw this year’s Captain, Kat Underhill, run out for her 100th Cap – a fantastic achievement.

Kat becomes the 14th player in the team’s history to play 100 times and not only that another 5 of the players who have achieved this were at the match (4 of whom were playing as well).

Both of the above stories are testament to the strong team spirit we have within our Women’s section, with those who join electing to play long careers at Welsh. We look forward to seeing the Cap count rise further for the remainder of the 2023/2024!
