GIRLS RUGBY AT LONDON WELSH
There is a proud tradition of minis rugby at London Welsh RFC. The age groups play mixed rugby up until U12s, and truth be told some of the best minis players are the Girls... don’t believe me ask the coaches!
So what happens to the girls at U12s I hear you ask? They join the Girls team! In girl's rugby the U12s and U13s age groups are combined, same with the U14s and U15s. At London Welsh we currently offer rugby for U13s girls (year 7 & 8) and U15s girls (yr 9 & 10). We also have a few U11s girls who preferred to come train with the girls' team rather than carrying on playing mixed rugby. Whilst we can’t offer matches at this age group, we are more than happy to integrate the girls safely into training. If your daughter is aged 16 or 17 then please contact us as we may be able to assist you.
We train every Sunday from 11am until 12:30pm and can usually be found in front of the clubhouse at Old Deer Park. There are 20 girls currently playing rugby with us. We have a friendly group of coaches, 2 of which are level 2 coaches, who are also members of our Women’s Rugby Team, but we’re always on the lookout for extra coaching help. We organise fixtures and joint sessions, called pitch up and plays, with other local clubs, and often run fun tournaments within the playing group as well. We have arranged trips to see local women’s premier 15s fixtures, even getting to be flag bearers on the pitch for one match, and we’ve also been to the Women’s Six Nations England vs Wales match!
We are all about fun and allowing everyone the opportunity to play rugby, a sport all who are involved in the club are passionate about.
Our clubhouse is usually open on a Sunday morning for refreshments and hot food and drinks, for that post training snack or a hot drink for those watching from the touch line. If you’d like to get involved then drop us an email at LWWRFC@londonwelshrfc.co.uk or contact our Head of Girl’s Rugby – Paula Cooper on paulataffcooper@aol.com You can also pop along on a Sunday morning and have a chat and see what we’re all about, but worth double checking we’re not playing away from home that day first!
