What were you looking for when you approached the Hub?

When approached, I was coming to the end of my time at Loughborough University and was very open about my next move, as my degree in Geography and Sport Management gave me complete flI had just left my second company four years into my career, and had experience in a few different industries and roles. I knew I could have some success in multiple different areas but wasn’t sure where I wanted my career to go, and which role/industry might be best to target next. The main thing I was looking for at the time was some insight into answering those questions, though I wasn’t sure how to go about that.

How did the Hub help?

The Hub gave me the ability to explore many different options and after speaking to numerous I met with Pete and Haydn and talked through my career to date, as well as my questions about the future. They provided a sounding board for my thoughts, as well as giving an outside perspective on different paths I could take. Once I had expressed interest in a slight career change, the Hub provided a short example project so I could get a feel for the industry, and then introduced me to a potential mentor in the business. That introduction led to getting some experience inside the company, as well as introductions to various other people in the industry to help with getting a job.

How would you describe the overall experience and net result of using the Hub?

My experience with the Hub has been fantastic, as all members have been very supportive and efficient. Without the Hub I would not have been in a position to find work as quickly. If you are keen to plI did not end up moving into this industry – whilst I am still interested in it, I would rather not start again. That said, it has provided some great clarity on options for later in my career. It was also an incredibly rare opportunity – to rethink where I am headed, and even get hands-on experience in a new industry. The initial commitment is negligible – I had a fifteen-minute call with Pete, and then a 30 minute meeting before training with Pete and Haydn, in a confidential, positive environment. From there, I was given feedback on my resumé, and several different options for moving forward. This was last summer, and I still have Pete and Haydn to bounce the occasional idea off if needed. I didn’t have a hard and fast “goal” in mind when I contacted the Hub, but it was well worth the experience to refocus at a crossroads in my career. Whether you want to actively look for a new job, an industry change, or just want to do some career planning, the Hub is a great place to start.
