1st XV close 2018 with 50 point win
Welsh hold Kilburn scoreless in the rain
A wet and cold afternoon in Gladstone Park saw the 1st XV bring the 2018 fixtures to a close in style. Conditions were far from good but despite this they scored eight tries and 5 conversions.
Andy May scored the first try with his front row colleague Marc Weir adding the second. Rhodri Dawes converted the latter of the two. The third try came from Rhys Tudur Davies off a strong Welsh scrum and David Gabe secured the bonus point within the opening 20 minutes touching down after the ball was hacked over the try line. Rhodri Dawes’ conversion took the score to 24-0.
David Gabe added the fifth try when he outpaced Kilburn’s defence. Rhodri Dawes’ third conversion of the game made the half time score Kilburn 0 London Welsh 31.
Welsh started the second half strongly but took ten minutes to turn pressure in to points. Gareth Morgan charged down a Kilburn kick and got hands to the ball for another try. Five minutes later Tim Ross scored the seventh try and Rhodri Dawes was successful with the conversion.
The final try fell to Andrew Black from a scrum driven over the line and one more conversion for Dawes gave a final score of Kilburn 0 London Welsh 50. For the 1st XV this was their first clean sheet win of the season and, after 12 games, gives a points difference almost 120 better than any other team in the league.
London Welsh hold top spot in London 3 North West with 52 points, seven clear of Old Streetonians. Datchworth are a point further behind and in fourth and fifth places are Tabard and Stevenage, both on 42 points.
Tabard visit Old Deer Park on Saturday 5th January for the next league game. Kick off is at 2pm.
