2018 starts with a win
Unbeaten home record continues
London Welsh maintained their unbeaten home record with a win against a determined Hendon side.
The day at Old Deer Park started with an enjoyable Pre-match club Patrons lunch. Guest soprano Emilie Parry-Williams entertained the crowd, with ex-players Ed Jackson and Jon Mills providing an inspirational Q&A.
To the game, and from the whistle the Welsh pack immediately looked to dominate, and within minutes Welsh No 8 Tyron Pelasio had opened the scoring on the back of a dominant 5m scrum.
Further first half tries from scrum half Elis Staines, and prop Samuel Mohoney, meant that Welsh pulled away into a commanding lead.
To their credit Hendon ran hard and had some impressive backs, and Welsh errors always kept the opposition interested.
The second half saw some improved handling from the Welsh backs, leading to tries from outside half Rhys Davies, Cai Griffiths and No8 Tyron Pelasio. The improved second half display led Welsh to secure the win and the important try bonus points.
Cai Griffiths showed great leadership on the field as captain, and a special mention to impressive Welsh No8 Tyron Pelasio for a great performance, but Man of the match was awarded to tight-head prop Samuel Mahoney for his dominant scrummaging and his two tries.
A winning start to 2018, leaves the club looking forward to the league game next Saturday.
