A game without a competitive scrum
By The Offical London Welsh
The Fallen Recognised
An odd request from the opposition to commence the fixture with uncontested scrums would eventually prove to be the most memorable aspect of ill tempered second period.
The first half from a lively Welsh under 18 team saw them steadily building a lead against a very physical and competent Vandels team. It was however two interception tries that gifted Vandels a four point half time lead.
With the home team scoring two tries from driving maul’s early in the second half and without any completion in the scrum, the big Vandels forward pack eventually gave the home side a grip over the game that could not be released. The seemingly uncessary absense of competitive scrums left both teams with sufficient energy to involve themselves with non Rugby matters, which sadly added nothing to what could have been an extremely competitive 70mins of Rugby.
We will however all remember being part of rememberance day silence where Vandels large contingent of U7 to U18 and their coaches stood side by side to honour those who have given their lives to serve their country.
