LWU16 Continue winning ways
LWU16 win in mud bath
London Welsh U16 continued their winning ways at a very heavy and muddy Grey Court School.
LW managed 15 players on the day which meant quite a shift for all in the very trying conditions. A very even first 15 minutes saw Welsh pressure but excellent defence from Teddington. The deadlock was broken when Alec Brundle went over for a try but not converted. A lapse though in the Welsh defence on their own 22 saw Teddington race through and take the lead 7-5. Just before the break Charlie Clark burst through to score and this time Finn converted so 12-7 at the break.
Second half saw lots of Welsh pressure which resulted in Finn Collins scoring to go 17-5 and then followed by a storming run from Youssaf to make it 22-5.
Further pressure from Welsh resulted in a penalty 5 meters out, expecting a kick to touch or tap and go, everyone but Dan Hawkins and Archie Jones were ready, they had other things on their mind. Dan with a kick across field evaded the on rushing Teddington player for Archie to score...the initial shock of the kick all forgotten with this making the score 27-7 with 3 to play.
Teddington never gave up and had some fast runners and great defence and finally they went over with the last play of the game.
Credit to both teams in difficult conditions and a good crowd to watch.
We meet again in 2 weeks in a 10's tournament..
