Druids take maximum points despite defeat
Ruislip too strong in re-arranged fixture but Druids move up to second place in league
This Saturday was a scheduled reserve weekend in the Merit Tables but, rather than a muh deserved day off, Druids travelled to Ruislip to play the fixture postponed from November.
A try by Matt Cox, converted by Rhys Tudur Davies, gave Druids a 7-0 lead inside the opening ten minutes. Ruislip soon levelled the score with a low kick through the Welsh defensive line and a scramble to touch down for a converted try.
Ruislip maintained the pressure on the Welsh line and increased their lead with an unconverted try less than ten minutes later. Neither side could add any more points before half time.
Half time: Ruislip 12 London Welsh Druids 7
Druids’ hopes of quickly turning the game around were dealt a blow early in the second half. A yellow card was followed by Ruislip’s third try of the game, the successful conversion putting them 19-7 ahead. Within five minutes they had added their fourth try with an easy conversion in front of the posts increasing their lead to 19 points.
Druids managed periods of attack but the Ruislip defence held strong and Welsh made the task even harder with too many errors. Another yellow card midway through the half reduced Welsh to 14 men once again but they managed to stop Ruislip scoring during the sin bin period.
With eight minutes remaining Ruislip lost a player when the referee showed the third yellow card of the game and then in the closing moments added their fifth and final try. Ruislip visit Old Deer Park on 16th February for the return fixture.

Next Saturday Druids play league leaders Chiswick at ODP. Kick off is at 2pm.
The final score on the pitch does not match the score recorded for the league results. As this game was originally postponed at the request of Ruislip the score was adjusted by the League Manager to give Druids a bonus point win. The final score for the league records is Ruislip 31 London Welsh Druids 36. Druids move up to second place in Middlesex Merit Table 1.
