Druids Win on the Heath
Victory at Hampstead keeps play-off hopes alive
London Welsh Druids travelled to Hampstead looking for a win to keep them in the top half of Middlesex Merit Table 3 and in contention for a place in the end of season play-offs.
Druids took a ten point lead in the opening quarter thanks to two unconverted tries. Welsh defence held strong and, with Hampstead unable to cross the half way line, Druids capitalised on the territory and possession to score a further try. This time the conversion was added and the visitors were 17 clear. Hampstead had the final say before half time with a converted try making it 7-17 after 40 minutes.
The home team were playing downhill in the second half and took advantage of this with a penalty and unconverted try adding to their total and reducing Druids' lead to just two points. Welsh ensured the win through a quickly taken penalty and good linking between the half backs. A pop pass from the fly half on the 22 found the hooker in support to run in the fourth try. The successful conversion made the final score 15-24 and, with just two games of the regular season remaining, the play off semi-finals remain within sight.
