DRUIDS STING THE WASPS
Man Of The Match - Scrum Half Michael Blakey
On wet and windy day. The Druids travelled to play Wasps 2nd XV. With a good squad of 20 with a mixed team ranging from 17 year old Charlie Jones to 52 year old Matt Childs (Jaws)
After a nervous start, Welsh finally settled down and from a 25 meter line-out, the forwards drove to Wasps line with Courtney Maggs Jones scoring the first of 9 tries !!
Converted wide out by Will Childs 0-7 who kicked 8 from 9 in the match.
This settled the team down, then 5 minutes later Big Andy Wright crashed over from 7 metres, converted by Childs 0-14.
In the terrible conditions, Welsh started to use the handling skills much better than Wasps. They kept the pressure on, and from 5 metres out Captain Dan Jones came speeding round blind side with Scrum Half Michael Blakey scooping the ball through his legs for Jones catching and crashing over wide out. Childs again converting 0-21.
From the kick off Welsh were penalised for hands in ruck. Wasps Outside Half kicked it to make score 3-21
This seemed to wake up Welsh and get back into their mindset, then with pick and drive in 5 phases, Prop Matt Cox went over right by the posts, converted by Childs 3-28
This was the half time score. A chat at half time by the Coaches Paul Bessent/James Collins Clarke for the boys to start moving it wide and spread the Wasps tiring pack.
The second half produced some of the best tries with forwards and backs linking well with Inside Centre Fred White crashing through for the first of his hat trick of tries. Converted by Childs 3-33
Wasps were now starting to flag and with 4 more tries from Fred White X 2, and the best try of the match with a cross kick by Will Childs, and a superb catch in mid air from Harry Case who still had to beat 3 Wasps players and score under the posts !!
Then in injury time, with Welsh camped on Wasps try line, Courtney Maggs Jones scored his 2nd and Welsh final try 67-3
A massive boost of confidence before we play 3 teams above us over next few months, and still a chance of being in the Play Offs.
