Ten teams play in our popular and friendly Midis Festival.

Everyone had fun at our London Welsh Midis Festival!

“A fantastic day with U11's & U12's gaining valuable new rugby experiences at London Welsh is a great way to grow our game at this level” Marcus Wuest - London Welsh Minis Chairman

London welsh Midis Festival

Our Midis Festival took place this past Sunday with over 300 players participating from a range of local clubs along our special guests SC Frankfurt.

The weather was perfect for a great morning of rugby. The pitches were beautifully marked up by our groundsman who did a fantastic jobs to get them ready.

With 10 teams at U12 and 12 teams at U11, there was plenty of rugby to entertain in the sunshine whilst having tea and cake from the wonderful cake stall with a huge array of homemade cakes including Welsh cakes of course. SC Frankfurt were our most frequent visitors to the stall and every last sweet bag was sold by 12.30.

Back to the rugby, we aimed to have flowing matches played in a competitive but friendly spirit. Winners medals were up for grabs so the kids had a big incentive to have the coveted London Welsh medal around their neck. Reports back from our visiting clubs suggest we achieved our aim and the bonus of the sausage and chips for every player sealed our reputation for another year as the most welcoming and friendly club around.

At U11, some super competitive rugby was played at both development and experienced levels. Our London Welsh Druids held their own to make it to the final losing to Barnes in a hard fought match. At the experienced level, after victories against Wasps, Grasshoppers and Richmond, the London Welsh Wizards faced their arch nemesis the London Welsh Dragons in the final. Both undefeated teams contested a closely fought match with the Wizards running out winners. Barnes grabbed a well deserved third place.

The U12s had a more international flavour with SC Frankfurt playing. They found the festival fun and tough but their coach commented that they will be taking back with them a lot of valuable new experiences gained from playing against our clubs. The overall club winners at U12 were Wasps.

We now look ahead to our St David’s Day Festival which will be taking place on the Sunday 24th February and will involve local and Welsh clubs. We have had a number of Welsh clubs interested as this festival grows in reputation. Our Minis Festival (U7s – U10s) will be on Sunday 17th March.
