London Welsh Women vs Rosslyn Park Ladies KO 2pm 3rd March 2019

Following on from one of their strongest performances of the season away to Reading, London Welsh Women return home to fortress Old Deer Park for their final two games of the season. Welsh have remained unbeaten at home for the last two seasons, their last defeat suffered to Bath on 1st April 2017.

This St Davids Day weekend sees the Womens team welcome local rivals Rosslyn Park Ladies to Old Deer Park. Rosslyn Park are a team who, like Welsh, have spent the last couple of season rebuilding. After a really successful post-Christmas recruitment drive Welsh are now getting excellent numbers at training and the competition for places is only bringing out the best in people. The strength in depth really showed last weekend, with three of our Inner Warrior Camp attendees making their London Welsh Debuts. There may even be more this weekend – keep your eye out for the team sheet later in the week.

London Welsh vs Rosslyn Park always provides for some great running rugby. Park, like Welsh, enjoy running with the ball in hand. You’d expect no less from a team that plays regularly on a 4G pitch.

When the sides met at Rosslyn Park back in November, Welsh were by far the dominant side notching up 14 tries to win 0-74. However the team know that Park should never be underestimated. They caused Welsh problems in that first half, disrupting ball and had a great scramble defence. Welsh were guilty of trying to force tries without moving through the phases and earning the right to go wide. We know Park have the ability to pin Welsh back through their kicking game so Welsh will need to keep their heads, be patient and stick to the game plan.

If you’ve never seen a Women’s rugby match, come down and treat yourself, this will be a cracking match to watch. The team play a fast paced, offloading game. We have strong ball carriers in the forwards, and backs that can attack at pace. All that kicking on Saturday annoy you? Don’t worry there’ll be none of that! Grab yourself a beverage of your choosing from the bar, take your seat in the stands and enjoy what will be a brilliant game of rugby.
The game kicks off at 2:30pm.

If you can’t make it this weekend our last home game of the season is on 17th March, it’s a top of the table clash against Portsmouth Valkyries.

London Welsh Women are always looking for new players, whether you’re new to the game and just want to have a go, a current player, or you want to return to playing after a spell away. We train at Old Deer Park on a Wednesday evening 730pm-9pm. We’re a friendly bunch, who love playing rugby. Come along and give it a try.

Jo Wells, Eloise Newton and Heidi James from our @londonwelshwrfc team all made the Middlesex county squad this year! How 'fear and dread' turned into a great trial of open play and great handling skills that made the Middlesex coaches reason to pay attention!
