“There was fantastic representation for London Welsh from players, coaches, parents and supporters. The feedback from our visitors far and wide shows what a welcoming and friendly club we are!”

London Welsh Minis had their annual St Davids Day Festival last weekend and what a thrilling time we all had. On Saturday afternoon our friends from Abergavenny, CRICC, Llantrisant and Cowbridge rugby clubs settled down to watch the Wales v England game. After the opening rendition of both national anthems, it was down to business - with plenty of banter and (good) humour. The joyous celebrations at the final whistle went on into the night, when we were joined by "The House of Jack" - the live band which includes none other than Ian Whitfield, one of the U9s coaches.
I left reasonably early and from all accounts made the right decision, (as an England supporter) in both a sombre mood after watching England getting it wrong tactically (you can't just win games by kicking it and hoping Mr May's under it) and looking forward to a day of rugby in the sunshine.
Sunday arrived very (too) early. Those who managed to the ground for 8.00am saw plenty of evidence of the good times the night before. Hats off to the boys in U9 and U11s who went around with bin liners clearing the ground. After the armies of parents (you could spot the Welsh ones among us - I'm not convinced that the sunglasses were only being worn because of the weather) arrived and set up, we got underway with the festival. Our Welsh teams returned (just about) and were joined by Ealing, Bank of England, Guildford and Barnes.
While I walked around talking to all age groups and watching the games, everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. There was fantastic representation for London Welsh from players, coaches, parents and supporters. The feedback from our visitors far and wide shows what a welcoming and friendly club we are - some great friendships made and a chance to catch up with old ones.
Same time same place next year? We hope so!
